Hi.
Most of us have done it, when are internet goes down, its extreamly easy these days to go onto your naybours unincripted wireless network and use there internet connection.
Due to some bother with a naybour claiming that i whent on there network once, i would like to kno where i stand?
Because its unincripted (still is), Is it still illegal for me to go on it? I kno that it is if its incripted, but... it would be kinda handy for me and other ppl to kno.
Thanks, BEN.
I'm no lawyer, but there is a moral issue here. You didn't pay for it and supposedly your neighbor did. Why should he pay for your internet?
Just sounding off,
Bob
I kinda agree, which is why i would never do what some people do and leave there computers on networks overnight downloading stuff. I kno that some people have to pay per gig they use, so... yeh thats a bit to far.
I guess bob is right about the morals.
BEN.
I look at it this way, if your neighbor is dum enough not to secure his network then that's his problem. It says when you connect to the network, this network is unsecure, information sent over this network may be visible to others, do you want to connect anyways?
I'm one of those guilty ones because my friend and I have done it with her laptop :)
Troy
Okay, Troy, you shall be dealt with in the after life.
Good day: I am the keeper of the after life. Now Troy! let's talk here...hahahahahahah! For me it comes down to what Bob said. my feeling is if I am not paying for it I shouldn't be there. Sometimes however, and this happened at my office, I was using my PDA and it grabbed the network without even telling me and I was on the net. I disconnected immediately. I was also using the mac in our office and cruising happily on the net when the admin walked in and started pluging in the eithernet cable. i thought it was already on and was actually using someone elses wireless. So, perhaps think would you want people using your network? I do incript but mmany people just plug in and go. Okay! maybe we will still let you in should you mend your wicked ways...
This topic reminds me of an interesting call I had the other day. A few weeks ago I had a customer call in saying he couldn't connect to the internet. So, one of the first things I ask "what type of modem do you have? Are the lights on?" He's using a wireless modem, and he tells me there's no lights on. So I say ok then if there's no lights on we will have to send you a new modem. But the guy says "It's always been like this." Well it never doned on me until he said this that this customer was connecting to someone elses network.
I have actually have ran into this a lot.
Troy
I've never heard of it being illegal to access the net via accessing an unincripted network but hear's my take on it, if it's unincripted it's fare game. It's basically like turning on a radio and tuning into a near by station. If the people who's network your tapping into don't like it, then they should take the time incript them. Otherwise they could have more problems then someone using it to access the web like hackers. And of course let's alson not forget that you do put yourself at risk to from hackers.
hahaha!troy, loving that modem story!!! neet.... Ahh! tech support. bet you have got a few good ones.
I used to think the same as troy, but on the other hand, we got are netgear router, and we could have used it out of the box, all we had to do was plug it in, there was nothing there telling me that we had to incript it.
I still am undisided though.
BEN.
Ben figure it this way, if you really want to share your band with and don't care who is using your connection plug it in. If you would like all of your band with and feel people shouldn't use waht you are paying for then incript. the biggest problem with sharing is not people browsing but when people decide to download then you get short changed and will notice the difference in speed.
